Historic Abandoned Building Photoshoot

I’ve been sitting on these shots for quite some time—nearly two years, I think. There’s a long-abandoned ranch house tucked into the foothills of the Sierras where I spent a winter evening taking pictures at sundown. You can feel the history there—the stories the walls could tell of the generations who lived, worked, and raised families within them.

The main property stills remains a working ranch. The manager was kind enough to let me wander with my camera before he disappeared off into the distance, leaving me to shoot pictures. He mentioned to me that a mountain lion was the house’s most recent tenant, but he reassured me it was long gone. I wasn’t brave enough to test the creaky stairs to see who—or what—might still live upstairs. It’s funny how imagination fills the silence when the unknown lingers nearby.

As the light was fading and the cold was settling in, I couldn’t shake the feeling that the house was somehow aware of me. This historic location is watching, listening, and still telling its own stories, if you just take the time to listen.
