Glowing Sunrise Panoramic Capture
A Panoramic Capture in the Tahoe National Forest by Evan Petty
I captured this sunrise in July 2026 while camping. It was a 5am morning, I had my coffee and a short walk to the lake with my gear. I was already taking pictures when one of my daughters got up to join me, she and I were watching the view slowly unfold. I recall saying that I doubted we were going to get much of a sunrise, boy was I wrong! It went from boring to amazing in about 15 minutes and I was soaking it all in, as I was already shooting panoramic shots by then. This image looks best on a large monitor.

Above: 12-image panoramic shot using 14mm Sigma Art Lens with 50% overlapping shots. I chose 14mm to capture the widest possible capture of the clouds and reflections on the water. The rest was 1600 iso at f/11. F/9 might have worked which would have lowered my iso to 1250, but I wanted as much depth in the image to capture the foreground and clouds before diffraction became an issue. I edit in Photoshop and the image required quite a bit of work to straighten the horizon. The end result is a huge final image with exceptional sharp detail. I can see ripples in the water from fish surfacing near and far.
I will be ordering a 60″ wide metal print of this the sunrise image above. I am currently creating a new online gallery where orders for prints can be placed. I have found an exceptional printing company that does incredible metal prints. I am building an online gallery around a way to place order with them.
